starck, dr. glob, kartell, 1989
Kartell had dozed off a bit in the late 1980s. Dr. Glob is the first chair new ceo Claudio Luti launched with Philippe Starck after buying Kartell in 1988. With Dr Glob, Kartell managed to reclaim a piece of its former aura of innovative, high-tech design manufacturer. At the time, the chair turned all negative preconceptions about plastic on its head. The plastic is matt, looks voluminous and, with its own colour palette in eight pastel shades, it was completely different from the then-common plastic colours. Kartell was also the first to come up with beautiful straight rather than rounded, deflected corners.
